How To Bring The Outdoors – Indoors With Rustic Decor
Autumn is the optimal time to bring the beautiful colors of the changing leaves into your home.
In order to do so, here are some ideas that will bring the outdoors into your home, add charm, and a rustic feel.
Decorate Your Mantle for Fall:
Purchase some small white pumpkins at a local grocery or Farmer’s Market. Display them on pedestals, that you spray painted an antique bronze color, on your mantle.
Flank the pumpkins on pedestals with large hurricane vases-many can be found in a tinted, dark color. Fill the hurricane vases with coffee beans and insert a “fall scented” candle-such as cinnamon or nutmeg. When you burn them, the scents of fall will fill your living room!
Choose a small planter, and plant some small mums to add a pop of color.
Consider an Autumn Centerpiece
Choose a large, nicely shaped pumpkin or gourd. Using a hot glue gun, attach silk leaves in clusters in random areas of the pumpkin.
Add some faux flowers in a tall vase-possibly fill the vase with coffee beans-and place it alongside the pumpkin on the center of your table.
Perhaps you would like some “outdoor” decor inside your home year round. If so, the following options may appeal to you:
Wreaths
Wreaths can be easily customized to your decor, and you can make them look “outdoorsy”. Choose a wreath frame from a craft store, and add some faux flowers, fabric flowers, or other greenery. Hang it on the inside of your door for guests to view as they are leaving your home.
Wall Hangings
Have you visited or photographed a lovely, outdoor part of the world? If so, have it printed in a large, 11×14 or 16×20 size. Add a frame-they are easy to find in these sizes-and hang it in your living room.
Gallery collections can also add rustic charm. Have several prints made-as suggested above-frame them, and hang them in a grouping above your mantle or another focal point in your living area.
Taking a look around your home, and focusing on “outdoor” themes can easily add rustic charm to your home.
